Hor Fun Premium

Hor Fun Premium has clearly mastered how to make a quality plate of hor fun, from its tender meats, smooth noodles, and their flavour-packed gravy, which brings the dish to new heights.

Located within the vibrant food haven of Alexandra Village Food Centre, Hor Fun Premium is a gem in a hawker centre known for its xiao long bao, wanton noodles, and hearty soups. The stall (#01-78) is within walking distance of bustling hubs like Queensway Shopping Centre, Anchorpoint, and IKEA. With its signature hor funs packed full of wok hei, this eatery has become a go-to destination for those seeking a gratifying meal.

The owner, Mr Leo, first opened Hor Fun Premium in 2015, with several years of experience under his belt as a chef at a zi char stall. They have since opened another outlet at Marine Terrace Hawker Centre.

Beef Hor Fun

One of the shining stars on the menu at Hor Fun Premium is their Beef Hor Fun ($5.50) – a dish that pays homage to the beloved hor fun, a type of wide rice noodle commonly found in Southeast Asian cuisine. As you take the first bite, you are treated by the tantalizing flavour of wok hei, the smoky breath of the wok, imparting depth to the dish.

The smooth strands of rice noodles intertwine with tender slices of beef, creating a delightful contrast in texture. The marriage of savoury and succulent beef with the smooth hor fun strands is further elevated by the gravy’s blend of eggy goodness and wok hei.

Sliced Fish Hor Fun

For seafood lovers, the Sliced Fish Hor Fun ($5.50) is a masterpiece that marries the freshness of the ocean with the comforting allure of hor fun. The delicate slices of fish are cooked to perfection, boasting a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture that effortlessly complements the chewy hor fun noodles. The same rich gravy is added to this dish, packing a delicious wok hei punch and adding new depths of flavour to the plate.

Prawn Paste Chicken

While hor fun takes the spotlight at Hor Fun Premium, their Prawn Paste Chicken showcases the kitchen's versatility, perhaps owing to Chef Leo’s previous zi char experience. The chicken wings, known colloquially as har cheong gai, is made to order. When the plate of wings arrived at my table, I could still hear the crackle of the chicken skin as the dish came direct from the deep fryer.

The chicken is generously marinated in prawn paste, creating a succulent and flavorful profile that extends through each crispy bite. The freshly fried wings were deliciously crunchy, with a golden-brown exterior that shatters to reveal tender and juicy meat within. The umami richness of the prawn paste delivers a distinctive, savoury yet complex flavour that is absolutely addictive.

Mixed Hor Fun

Apart from the three dishes I tried, Hor Fun Premium also offers other options such as Mixed Hor Fun ($5.50), which includes seafood like fish, prawns, and thick pork slices. The hor fun dishes are also available as Mui Fan instead, which replaces the hor fun noodles with steamed white rice, drenched in gravy. You could enjoy a plate of Pork Ribs Rice ($5.50), or Ginger & Spring Onion Sliced Fish Rice ($5.50).

Hor Fun Premium has clearly mastered how to make a quality plate of hor fun, from its tender meats, smooth noodles, and their flavour-packed gravy, which brings the dish to new heights. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the stall, and would also highly recommend the Prawn Paste Chicken. They’re open from Wednesday to Monday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and 5pm to 8:30 pm, perfect for both lunch and dinner.
